City of God is a Brazilian film based on real events directed by Fernando Meirelles and co-directed by Katia Lund. It was adapted by Braulio Mantovani from the novel of the same name written by Paulo Lins. The film shows the growth of organized crime in the City of God between the 1960 and 1980.

The film is starring Alexandre Rodrigues, Leandro Firmino da Hora, Jonathan Haagensen, Matheus Nachtergaele, Douglas Smith, Alice Braga and Seu Jorge. Most of the actors was actually like Vidigal slum dwellers and City of God.

It received four Oscar nominations in the categories of Best Director (Fernando Meirelles), Best Adapted Screenplay (Braulio Mantovani), Best Editing (Daniel Rezende) and Best Cinematography (C?sar Charlone).
