On a drunken night out with a friend, Korean businessman Oh Dae-su gets arrested for disorderly conduct and causes a scene down at the station. On the way home, he rings his young daughter, before mysteriously disappearing while his friend's back is turned. Once Oh Dae-su awaken's, he finds himself locked in what appears to be a hotel room. Here he remain's for the next 15 years, slowly losing his mind over time. Eventually he escapes with thanks to his rigerous training regime and attempts to find his captor, daughter and exactly why he was held prisoner.
