Sagan is amazing. he came from a poor Brooklyn family and made himself into a highly accomplished scientist. it also impresses me how he understands that science is only one piece of the puzzle, that all the disciplines -- history, literature, medicine, psychology -- are ultimately tied to one another. also, he understands that science adds to spirituality, it doesnt make it obsolete. few people grasp this.
